NIGHT DUTY BLUES (1952)

							Late every night
									When the Ward is asleep
									The shadows and I
									Have a vigil to keep
									My heart I lose
I get those Night Duty Blues.

Misery walks when the hour is late
Troubles seem worse when the hour is late
									That's why I choose
To sing those Night Duty Blues.

O Lordy, how I keep wishing for night to be gone
Oh what a welcome I'll give to the dawn
How the night is lonely, lonely and gray
That's because the world is sleeping away.

The squeak of a bed, a cough and a snore,
The tick of the clock, the creak of the floor
									Are all my cues
To sing those Night Duty Blues!
